Second seed Gilles Simon booked his berth in the finals of the PTT Thailand Open, an ATP World Tour 250 indoor hard-court tennis tournament in Bangkok.
The Frenchman delivered the knockout punch to Jurgen Melzer of Austria after 1 hour and 49 minutes of battle. Simon won 6-4 7-6(3).
Simon won a whopping 72 per cent of his service points and also fired 8 ferocious aces to chuck out the Austrain from the tournament.
Simon is the only player in the Top 10 of the 2009 ATP Rankings who has not won an ATP World Tour title this year. And that he would be looking forward to with a win over Serbian Viktor Troicki who dismantled Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga's hopes of making it to the finals.
Troicki was humiliated by the Frenchman in the first set that the former lost 1-6. From thereon, it was the Serbian all the way as he made it 6-2 in the second set and then served out the match at 5-3. Troicki won 1-6 6-2 6-3 in just over an hour and a half.
