World No.2 and former Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova is set to face World No. 5 Samantha Stosur in the Porshe Tennis Grand Prix.
The World No.5 had to fight hard to overcome Germany's Julia Goerges in round two. She beat the German in three well-contested sets 6-2,2-6,6-3.
Marion Bartoli the conquerer of World No.1 Victoria Azarenka in Miami was beaten her by the host nation's Mona Barthel and claimed her second top scalp this week.
After registering a straight sets win over former World No. Ana Ivanovic, the German powered through into the quarterfinals beating Bartoli 6-3,6-1 arrowing 7 aces.
"My opponent had nothing to lose, that makes a first time head-to-head difficult," said Bartoli of Barthel "Mona played a lot tougher than I thought. I had watched her playing Ana and had noticed that she has a hard serve and strong strokes." The former Wimbledon finalist continued "But I was still surprised about how fast she could play, I virtually had no chance to defend, especially on this slippery surface, at times it left like I was playing on ice. This court contributed to Mona's game as she is very tall and can play very fast, so it was very hard for me to break her rhythm. I am sure the match between us would look very different on a hard court."
Li Na the French Open Champion however, had no such issues as the Chinese No.1 overcame Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan in straight sets 6-4,6-4. Petra Kvitova was also dominant and outclassed Francesca Schiavone of Italy to set up a quarterfinal clash with rising German Angelique Kerber.
