After recovering from a shoulder injury, Maria Sharapova is ready to lead Russia in Fed Cup.
Russian Tennis Federation President Shamil Tarpischev, who is also the Fed Cup captain, confirmed that Sharapova has agreed to play in the competition for the first time since making her debut for the Russian team in 2008. In 2008, Russian earned a 4-1 first-round victory over Israel.
Tarpischev further reasserted that the former World No. 1 is in a better shape now and she can achieve the top ranking now.
Besides Sharapova, two-time Grand Slam champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, former World No. 1 Dinara Safina, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will also be on the team for the match on the hard courts at the Olympic indoor stadium which will start on February 5.
