Maria Sharapova came back from a set deficit to beat Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska with a 1-6 6-2 6-2 scoreline and reached the final of the Bank of the West Classic. Sharapova will play Victoria Azarenka in the final.
Azarenka, from Belarus easily defeated top-seeded Samantha Stosur with a 6-2 6-3 scoreline to reach the final.
After the match, Sharapova said, “It’s been a long road. I’m just so happy to come out and not worry about too many things. I’m happy to just play tennis.”
About her opponent, Sharapova quoted, “she wins a lot of her matches by wearing down her opponents. You always have to be ready for your shot to come back.”
She further added, “I was all over the map for a little while but I started to be more patient and I was making three unforced errors a game in the first set and that’s too many. I needed to cut down on those, which I did and little by little I played really solid.”
Azarenka looked satisfied over her performance as she said, “I was pretty good on the return. “I think I just have long arms and that’s the key. If I can react fast enough I can usually get there.”
She further added, “I’m finally injury free and enjoying my time on the court. I’m starting to move a little bit better and my defense has improved. That’s helped my offense. I’ve also been working hard on my serve and it’s getting consistent.”
