Russian Maria Sharapova claimed top spot in her group by destroying Samantha Stosur easily in her last round robin match. She walked past the Aussie in just over an hour winning 6-0,6-3.

It was a stunning start to the match from the World No.2 who broke in the first game and then again in the third game to lead 3-0 in just over 10 minutes. She then went on to break serve yet once more to hand over an unexpected bagel in the first set to the Aussie. Stosur really struggled in that opening set exemplified by the fact that she could hit just one winner and made 5 double faults.

The second set was a lot closer than the first. Stosur finally turned up and started to be a lot more consistent. She held on to serve in the very first game and kicked on from there. The two remained neck and neck till the seventh game where Sharapova broke once more and then took the set 6-3.
