Serena William won her third US Open title and recapture her status as world no1as she fought hard to register win over second seed Jelena Jankovic 6-4 7-5 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Williams got the break in the match's sixth game with a deep forehand down the line. Two unforced errors landed her in trouble but she came out with an excellent serving. Serena knocked off a forehand volley to take a 5-2 lead.
The second set witnessed higher level of tennis. Jankovic was serving for the second set at 5-4, but Serena's fought back and denied Jankovic the chance to equal the scores. The next game featured lengthy exchange of rallies by both players but in the end Williams regained the lead.
Serving to stay in it, Jankovic wasted a game point with a double-fault then she directed a groundstroke into the net and gave Williams with a second match point. Williams captured the moment and produced backhand winner to lift the title.
