Former US Open champion Serena Williams advanced into the fourth round at Flushing Meadows on Saturday after registering a comprehensive 6-4 6-0 victory over Ekaterina Makarova of Russia. Serena continued from where she left in the last encounter to defy the challenge of the Russian in straight sets.
The American took some time to find her feet in the first-set but looked in flawless touch in the second and thoroughly dominated the proceedings to muster an easy victory. Serena hammered 31 winners and fired 8 aces to win this duel in straight sets.
Serena earned the breakthrough just at the right time in the tenth game of the first set and claimed it. The American hammered a backhand winner down the line and then fired two back to back winners to win the first set by breaking the Russian in the tenth game of the first set.
Serena took the momentum of the first set into second and did not allow the Russian to win a single game in the second-set. Serena completed a bagel in the second-set and won the match comprehensively.
