World No.4 Serena Williams started her campaign at the Cincinnati Masters with a win as she defeated Eleni Daniiliduo 6-3, 6-3in the second round of this WTA Premier level tournament, being played in America.

The American got a early break in the second game of the set and kept it till the end to wrap the first set in her favour. In the second set also, Serena broke Daniilidou twice to win the match in straight sets.

Serena next faces Kazakh Yaroslava Shvedova, who defeated Lucie Safarova of Czech Republic 6-3, 6-4.

Earlier in the day, Serena's elder sister Venus Williams rallied past Russia's Maria Kirilenko 6-3 6-7 6-2. Venus said "I'm doing a lot better than this time last year. So much better. So much better than a couple months of ago as well. I also am learning to deal with everything a lot better."

In other matches of the day, Slovakia's Daniela Hantuchova survived a match point to beat China's Zheng Jie 2-6 7-6 6-3 and Aussie Sam Stosur edged past Anabel Medinagarrigues of Spain 6-3, 7-6, 6-4.
