Enjoying the best form of her career, top-seeded Serena Williams of USA continued her quest to claim her maiden WTA Cincinnati Premier Event title on Saturday. The top-seeded American registered a straight sets 7-5 7-5 victory over the World No. 5 Na Li of China on Saturday evening and advanced into the final of this event for the first time in her career. A match that saw some grueling rallies could have gone either way but Li failed to maintain any momentum during the crucial moments of the match and lost it in straight sets.
Serena took 1 hour and 33 minutes to win this encounter, as she got 67% of her first serve in and smacked 16 winners. Well, the American converted 7 out of 9 break-points and got benefited from Li’s 35 unforced errors and 8 double-faults. In the end, Serena managed to win this match in 1 hour and 33 minutes and booked her place in the finals. With this victory, the American also extended her winning streak to 14 matches and advanced into her 10th championship final of the season.
Serena broke in the crucial twelfth game to win the first set after extracting crucial errors from Li. The World No. 1 took 48 minutes to win the first set, as she smacked 13 winners as compared to Li's 3 and converted 3 out of 5 break-points. Li had an opportunity to win the first set, but like she has done so many times during her career, the Chinese contender threw it away and got broken in that game, as she committed a couple of grave errors.
Li made a commanding start to the second-set, as she broke Serena in the third-game, but got broken in the very next game. Both contenders exchanged breaks a couple of time afterwards, but then Serena broke Li in the twelfth game and won the match. In the final tomorrow, Serena will meet the winner of the match between two former World No. 1 players Jelana Jankovic and Victoria Azarenka – playing in another semi-final match, here at Cincinnati.
