Serena dispatches Stosur in Montreal
The World No. 1 Serena Williams returned to Montreal in style as she took just 58 minutes to beat Samantha Stosur of Australia in two comprehensive sets with a 6-0 6-2 scoreline and stormed into the third-round of the Rogers Cup.

Coming off a WTA title victory in Stanford, Serena Williams carried forward the same form to Montreal on Wednesday and took just 58 minutes to dispatch the top Australian Samantha Stosur in straight sets 6-0 6-2. Playing in Montréal for the first time in 14 years, Serena simply blew away the Australian with her power a precision-oriented play – and set up a third-round clash against the Czech Lucie Safarova.

Williams last played the Rogers Cup in Montreal back in 2000. Serena looked in her zone on Wednesday night as she hit winners at will, while Stosur just could not come up with any resistance – in the end it was a tame loss.

Serena also enthralled the crowd by giving her post-match interview to the French broadcaster – in French. "It feels great to be here," she said in Montréal's native tongue. "I thought I played well tonight. She's won a Grand Slam title and she's a really good player, so it was important for me to play well.

"I love it here and I want to thank everyone for coming out tonight."

Serena’s third-round opponent Lucie Safarova registered a straight sets victory over Magdalena Rybarikova 6-4, 6-2, earlier on Wednesday. No.7 seed Jelena Jankovic edged past Sloane Stephens, 6-7(7), 6-4. 7-6(4).
