The hunger for gold was apparent for the American, when she started her title match at Wimbledon on Saturday and as the lop-sided duel progressed, Serena Williams dazzled everyone with her mind-boggling performance and literally humbled her opponent Maria Sharapova of Russia by doing everything just right. Finally, the American romped home with a comprehensive 6-0 6-1 victory. With this victory, Serena claimed the Olympics Gold Medal and became only the second woman in the history of tennis to complete a Golden-Slam after Steffi Graf.
What expected as a stiff duel, ended as a one-sided affair in the end – as Serena thoroughly dominated Sharapova and proved too good for her. The American took only 1 hour and 3 minutes to win the match with the help of 10 aces. Serena never really looked in any sort of trouble in this duel, as she converted 5 out of 7 break-points and hammered 24 winners. Sharapova had two break-points in the second-set, but she failed to convert them.
