American Serena Williams went one step closer to winning her fifth Wimbledon title when outperformed defending Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova 6-3, 7-5 in 1 hour and 25 minutes. It was a great performance by Williams, who really struck the ball cleanly to stun Kvitova with her strokes as well as her retrieving abilities.
In just over half an hour, Serena finished the set in emphatic fashion. With an amazing 17 winners packed with just 4 unforced errors, Serena broke the Kvitova serve once and stuck to it to wrap the set. Serena served really well in this set, losing just 5 points on her serve. She also fired 7 aces as she made Kvitova stretch for the balls, specially on her backhand side.
The second set was way closer, with both players holding with ease till the business end of the set, where Serena saved a set point and Kvitova saved multiple break points. But in the eleventh game, Serena raised her game to break the Czech's serve and then serve out the match successfully.
