World No.4 and Wimbledon Champion Serena Williams is all set to lock horns with Sorana Cirstea in the semifinal of the Bank of West Classic event in Stanford, CA.
Serena is coming off a brilliant win at the All England Club after being written off by most critics following her defeat in the first round of Roland Garros. At Wimbledon Serena did what she does best using he racquet as the ideal weapon to counter all the questions being asked off of her. She had returned to action following quite a few injuries last year, here at Stanford and hence made it a point to be a part of this tournament. Serena has looked visibly jet-lagged in the event so far, but has still managed to win quite comfortably up until now.
Serena has also won two previous tournaments before The Championships, one in Madrid and the other in Charleston. Her Win-loss record stands at 34-3 so far.
Her opponent today is Sorana Cirstea from Romania. She has had a half decent year so far and her win-loss reconrd stands at 18-17 this year. Cirstea has improved this year and has victories over top ten players such as Marian Bartoli and former world no.1 Jalena Jankovic. She would be looking forward to giving a better account of herself on grass.
