Defending Champion Serena Williams exhibited some fantastic tennis to outplay Slovak Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to move into the Semifinals of the Brisbane International. With this victory, Williams sets a mouth watering clash with Russian Maria Sharapova for a place in the Finals.
Serena fired bombs on serve as she took the Opening Set without dropping a point on serve and breaking the Cibulkova serve in the all important eighth game of the First Set. Though Cibulkova held on to her serve in the first Three Games, she could not sustain her level as the American raised the tempo in the last three games to catch the Slovak off-guard. Serena failed to find her range on the Cibulkova serve at the beginning but once she did, she was simply unstoppable. With 13 winners in the First Set, Serena dominated play from the start and did not let Cibulkova come back in the set at any time.

The Second Set started with the American breaking the Cibulkova serve and following it up with a comfortable service hold. Smacking winners at will and from all parts of the court, Serena kept the pressure on the Slovak, who gave in from time to time. Though Cibulkova fought valiantly, her efforts all went vain as Serena with her ruthless power dictated play and did not let the Slovak come back at any time in the match.
