Serena Williams leads provisional entry list at US Open
World no. 1 Serena Williams and four other U.S. Open champions lead the provisional womens field for this year tournament.

 

For this year’s last Grand Slam, three-time U.S. Open winner Serena Williams and four other past winners lead the provisional women’s field. 

Prior to the start of this year’s U.S. Open, ninety-nine of the top 100 women tennis players have been given a direct entry to the tournament, which starts on August 30 at Flushing Meadows. Only, world no. 12 Justine Henin is missing from the list as she has withdrawn from the tournament due to an injury. 

Serena Williams is expected to recover from the injury before the tournament. The other notable names in the list are: Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Kim Clijsters and Svetlana Kuznetsova.
