Defending Champion Serena Williams played like a champion as she battled immense pain to go beat Serb Jelena Jankovic in three pulsating sets and move into the Finals of the WTA Championships. The World No.1 outplayed the former World No.1 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in just over 2 hours to keep herself undefeated in this tournament so far.
Serena took the opening set after coming back from 1-3 down. Though she started the set on a sloppy note, she raised the ante from the fifth game, finding the range pretty well. With big serves along with some fantastic hitting from the back, Serena kept pressurizing Jankovic, who gave in easily. Both players were playing aggressive tennis and weren't holding back but it was Serena who won the points that mattered. The World No.1 smacked a couple of aces along with 15 winners to totally dominate the second half of the First Set.
Jankovic then came back to take the Second Set after breaking the Serena serve in the eighth game to level the match up at 1 set all. The American is visibly looking in pain and is just not playing the tennis one is used to seeing from her with the Serb making the most of that. Making the American move from side to side, Jankovic dictated play with Serena simply going for broke as the pain just seemed unbearable for the American.

The Third Set started with Jankovic being the favorite but as it turned out, it was Serena who used all her experience to start the set on a fantastic note, breaking the Serb’s serve to kick start the Decider. With average yet accurate serves coming throughout the set, it was the American who with her serves kept the pressure on Jankovic, who finally gave in.
Williams now goes on to face Na Li for the Title.
