Unseeded Israeli Dudi Sela started his bid for the maiden title in 2010 season with a hard fought win over American Jesse Levine to reach the second round of the 2010 U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships, being played here in Houston, USA.
Sela, who is considered by many as the Israeli Davis Cup hero, made a good start but lost concentration in the second set before pulling off a 6-4, 7-6(6) win in one hour and 45 minutes of play.
In the day's other match, American Wayne Odesnik posted a confident 6-3, 6-4 win over Polish Jerzy Janowicz to move to the second round of the tournament. He was later joined by Slovakian Blaz Kavcic, who took out Uzbek Denis Istomin in a three set struggle, winning the 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 match in two hours and 8 minutes of play.
The day also saw the completion of the final qualifying round matches with Kevin Anderson, Ryan Sweeting, Nick Lindahl and Conor Niland, all emerging victorious to make it to the main draw of the event.
