Chanelle Scheepers made a fine start to her title defense on Monday at the GRC Bank Guangzhou International Women's Open with a comfortable victory over Chinese wildcard entrant Wang Qiang.
Scheepers won her first match since falling in the opening round at the US Open. Scheepers earned 10 out of 11 points in the first set and then continued her dominance in the second-set too to sail home in straight sets with a 6-0 6-3 scoreline.
"It's good to have the win," Scheepers said. "She started playing better in the second set and was really starting to hit her targets so it was good to get through. Every tournament is tough and there are a lot of good players here. It doesn't matter if they're Top 10 or lower down, everyone can play really good tennis so I'm just going to take it match by match this week."
In the second-round, Scheepers will take on the Serbian Bojana Jovanovski, who continued her good form with a 6-1 6-3 victory over Timea Babos. Laura Robson did not have to work much as she was leading with 6-2 3-1 before her opponent Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor retired. Mandy Minella earned a came from behind victory with a 7-5 3-6 6-3 scoreline on Pauline Parmentier.

Well, I think she has chance, but I would be very surprised if she won?

Poor Bojangles lost. I shouldn't have bought shares in her!

The winner will come from the bottom half of the draw in my opinion. I bet Ula loses to Mandy Minella.
