Sania Mirza breaks into Top Five in Doubles for First Time in Her Career
Top Indian Sania Mirza and her doubles partner Cara Black of Zimbabwe broke into the top five in the WTA Rankings after producing some consistent results on tour.

Though, they could not make a deep run at the Championships, Sania Mirza and her Zimbabwean doubles partner Cara Black earned crucial 130 ranking points to break into the Top Five in the WTA Rankings.

Sania Mirza, who turned a pro in 2003, now plays only in doubles to prolong her career in tennis. She achieved top-five ranking for the first time in her career on Monday, when the rankings were released. Mirza focused on doubles only after overcoming a career-threatening wrist injury.

"It’s been a long hard journey since my comeback to tennis from my third surgery when my career seemed to be over. It is a very satisfying feeling to have bounced back from those despairing times and to be ranked in the top-5 of the world today."

Her father and coach Imran Mirza said, "I've always believed Sania had the potential to be a top-5 player. I'm happy she has overcome heavy odds to justify her promise."
