Samantha Stosur is ranked at number 7 in the world. On the other hand Maria Kirilenko is ranked at number 24 among the WTA rankings.
Stosur has churned out in crucial victories on major stages this year. The talented Australian booked a place in the finals of Toronto, reached the quarterfinals in Cincinnati and then earned her first Grand Slam title at US Open beating Serena Williams in straight sets. She lost to Kirilenko in the second round of the Pan Pacific tournament last week and will be looking forward to settle scores this time around. She will try her best to get back her confidence before the season ending WTA event.
Kirilenko has been playing a lot of tournaments this year. She won titles on the doubles front but then has been unable to win a singles title this year. The Russian registered a quarterfinal birth in Strasbourg and then went to make it to the fourth round of the US Open. She will try to improve her rankings with a few vital victories in the rest of the year.
Both the players have met each other six times before and the head-to-head stands at 4-2 in Stosur’s favour. The last time they met was last week in Tokyo where Kirilenko won in three tough sets. Stosur can clobber massive forehands and can strike backhands with confidence. Kirilenko can work mighty backhands and can club them well with angled volleys. Stosur should be able to come through in three tough sets.
