Ruano Pascual retires from Professional Tennis

Spanish veteran Virginia Ruano Pascual finally decided to call it quits after a stellar doubles career that saw 10 Grand Slam triumphs a top spot in rankings for numerous years.

10 time Grand Slam doubles champion Virginia Ruano Pascual retired from the professional tennis at the age of 36 years. The doubles star from Spain enjoyed the super stardom with partner Paola Suarez that included the ITF World Doubles Champions and Team of the Year awards for three consecutive years ( 2002-04 ). The Spaniard paired with the Argentine Suarez to win eight of those 10 Grand Slam doubles titles that include a whopping 6 French Open crowns. Although her last major triumph came alongside countrywoman Anabel-Medina Garrigues at the 2008 Roland Garros. The Spanish duo also won the Olympics Silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Ruano Pascual's singles career also took shape formidably as she won three Sony Ericsson WTA Singles titles in Tashkent (2003), Budapest (1998) and Cardiff (1997). She also served as a member of the Spanish Fed Cup Team (1992-97) and the Olympic Team (1996, 2004, 2008).
