Looking to re-ignite her magic on WTA tour after becoming the first Asian ever to claim a Grand Slam title by winning the 2012 French Open, Chinese tennis sensation Li Na takes Czech Lucie Safarova to secure her place in the final of the 2012 Rogers Cup.
Gunning for her sixth career title, Li Na has emerged as another enigmatic contender on tour after her scintillating Grand Slam victory in 2011. The Chinese contender became a household name in Asia after that triumph but she failed to maintain that form. Now, looking resilient and determined to redeem her position in the WTA Rankings, Li has an ordinary 25-11 win-loss record for the season. She has not won any title in the new season and the way she has played so far in 2012, it seems that Li needs some luck and a few consistent wins to get some much-needed confidence.
Her opponent - Safarova, has had an average year so far, with a 23-14 win-loss record. She has had a few good tournaments so far this year but has failed to win one yet. The south paw has a really good serve and she backs it with her accurate ground strokes.
Li leads Safarova 5-1 in their head-to-head series and has won their last five in a row.
"I've played her a few times. I don't think I've won against her yet," Safarova said, ahead of this clash. "She's a top player and always playing really strong. She has very strong groundstrokes. I have nothing to lose tomorrow. I will go there and try to play my tennis, try to take her time away and use my lefty serve, and we'll see."
