Australian Open 2010, the last time Roger Federer lifted a Grand Slam trophy. It is a baffling statistic, a statistic that not only pains a Roger Federer faithful, but baffles him too. At the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, he is on his favortie surface, and really needs some momentum if he is to capture another Grand Slam at the upcoming Wimbledon.
After suffering a massive disappointment at Roland Garros where he lost in the semi-final against Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer came out of that defeat knowing that he self destructed more than anything else. He's now in the semi-final of the Gerry Weber Open on his favorite surface – Grass, and seems to be on a mission to salvage his season.
Sixteen Grand Slam titles winner Roger Federer has certainly passed his prime, but the way he has been able to maintain his consistency on tour – which is something incredible in many ways. He did however look suspect against big-serving Milos Raonic in the quarterfinal. To be fair to the champion, the Canadian is always a dangerous proposition.
Nevertheless, a player of Federer’s stature knows how to take that one vital step at a time. Federer has an impressive 38-5 win-loss record this season with 4 ATP World Tour titles – including two Masters trophies. The Swiss ace is bidding for his 75th career title and sixth Halle trophy.
Home favorite Tommy Haas. Haas is ranked 87 in the World, but that is not how one should judge Haas. With bags of experience, Haas overcame World No.7 Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinal making the Czech look pedestrian at times. In the semifinal Haas overcame Philipp Kohlschreiber as he rolled back the years playing some fabulous tennis. The former World No.2 is the 2009 champion here, and will be looking to add to that tally. His win-loss record stands at 13-6 this season.
The two have met a massive twelve times over their long careers and the Swiss has won ten out of them. Haas's last victory over Federer came back in 2002.
TennisEarth predicts an easy win for Federer.
