In an exciting semi-final clash at 2012 London Olympics, World No.1 Roger Federer faces Argentine Juan Martin del Potro on Friday. Both players are looking in good touch at the moment and it could be a blockbuster match !
After a slow start in the first round, Federer has risen his game to another level and has come back strongly, winning the next two matches in straight sets, showing he just gets better as the tournament progresses. With 5 titles to his name this year, Federer recaptured the elusive World No.1 ranking after lift his seventh Wimbledon crown. With a very good 49-6 win-loss record this year, Federer looks to be getting back to the level we expect him to play at.
On the other side - Juan Martin Del Potro stands tall among the present breed of players, not because he is 6ft 6in tall, but because he became the first player to beat both Nadal and Federer in a slam in 2009, when he stunned the tennis world by winning the US Open title. Del Potro had a little time to celebrate that triumph before his surge was badly hit by recurring injuries. But, it seems that the Argentine has left that scary past behind and ready to script a new success story. Del Potro is back in the Top 10 – credit goes to his tremendous consistency in the new season. With 40-10 win-loss record and 2 titles in 2012 – Del Potro is certainly a contender to beat in the new season.
Both the players have met 14 times before and Federer leads 12-2 in head to head series.
