World No.1 Roger Federer kept his ranking intact going into the US Open when he progressed to the finals of the Cincinnati Masters, beating fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in two tight sets 7-6(4), 6-3 in 1 hour and 35 minutes.
Federer took the first set in a tie-breaker after Wawrinka displayed some exceptional tennis at all pressure situations and managed saving 6 set points. In just under an hour, with 16 winners and a high percentage of first serves, the World No.1 took the opening set after raising the bar of his tennis to another level in the breaker. He also won 10 out of 12 points at the net, showing how good he was at volleys.
In the second set, Federer was a different player all together when he broke the Wawrinka serve twice to take cruise control of the set and the match. Wawrinka tried his level best to fight back but failed to take his chances as Federer was too strong for him tonight.
With 29 winners and 5 aces, Federer won a high percentage of points when his first serve went in as he also won 90% points at the net, showing that he is really high on self belief and is looking strong.
He faces Novak Djokovic in the finals.
