Roger Federer is the greatest ever: Gael Monfils
Gael Monfils has entered the round of 16 of the US Open for the second time in his career after he knocked out Grigor Dimitrov in the 4th round in New York on Wednesday. Gael looked in an impressive touch and played some exquisite shots against the Bulgarian to register his first victory in the main Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The Frenchman, who defeated 'Baby Federer' by 7-5 7-6 (8-6) 7-5 on Wednesday wil now face the Maestro Roger Federer in the quarte-final of the final Grand Slam of the year. The Swiss master and Monfils previously locked horns 9 times on the tour, out of which 7 times Federer came out victorious. Recently, the duo collided with each other in Cincinnati, where the out of the contest was decided in a final set.

In his post match press conference the Frenchman praised the 17-times Grand Slam winner while responding on a question about his upcoming match. "Roger is definitively the tennis legend. I can say that for me he is the greatest player we have ever had in tennis. Because of that it is obviously very challenging for me to play against him, it has always been the case. I see it in the positive way. I mean, in some years I will be able to tell my kids that I played against Roger Federer, and also that I beat him a couple of times. And that is cool! For me, I play tennis to face great legends, to play on big stadiums and courts, that's what I play and train for, so I look forward to it" said Gael.

When Roger Federer was enquired about his views on Monfils's quote on him, he said: "Well, I don't know how to take it. Is it a compliment (smiling)? I like the guy, you know, I do like Gael. We like to joke around off the court and we always have a good talk when we meet on the tour. I also think that our games do match up quite well, we play nice matches against one another. We played a very tough match just few days ago in Cincinnati. So, yes, I think it is going to be memorable for everyone involved, and especially for the unborn children (laughing). I mean, it doesn't mean that in order to make it more memorable he has to beat me 7-6 in the fifth set, that would be huge".

In last night's between the two, if Monfils had clinched one of the two match points, the headline would have been "Monfils mauls Federer" However now, after his defeat, its 'Monfils mentally and physically fatigued"

Gael may finally be ready to step up on the big stage -- the top five or maybe win a slam. But he'd better hurry. It's going to get crowded at the top soon with Dimitrov, Raonic and soon maybe Kyrgios rising to the top too.

Very interesting comments from both. Is it hype or spin? Never the less, it can be a fascinating contest, Monfils can beat anyone on his day. Hope Roger prevails today!
