Top seeded Andy Roddick of America overcame first set deficit to beat Richard Berankis of Lithuania 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the first round of Regions Morgan Keegan Championships, Memphis.

“It was one of those days where I felt if I made a first serve the point was done, I didn’t have to do much work after that,” Roddick said. “That gave me a chance, and I played a little bit more aggressive in the third set.”
Second seeded Mardy Fish downed Russia’s Teimuraz Gabashvili 6-1, 7-5 to move ahead in the tournament.
“I felt a lot better today than I did Friday,” Fish said. “So that’s a good sign. Obviously the goal is to try to get to 100 percent. To be honest, I’ve felt better each day.”
Defending champion Sam Querrey rallied past Uzbekistani Denis Istomin 6-7(5), 7-6(5), 6-4. Also, James Blake won 6-4, 6-3 win against Brazilian Ricardo Mello.
In other first-round matches, Serbian Janko Tipsarevic defeated American qualifier Ryan Sweeting 6-0, 7-6(7) and Czech Radek Stepanek scored a 6-4, 6-2 win over German Benjamin Becker.
In second-round matches on the women’s side, seventh seeded Renata Voracova of the Czech Republic was ousted by Russian Ksenia Pervak 6-1, 6-1.
Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia downed Britain’s Anne Keothavong 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.
