2003 US Open Champion Andy Roddick won his opening match, which happen to be an all-American clash against former top ten player James Blake, the former no.1 player in the world pulled out all his guns to win the match 7-6,7-6.
After dropping serve early on in the match, Roddick recovered well to draw level at 5-all. The big serving American then put his foot on the gas to win the tie break of the first set to 6.
The fifth seeded Roddick notched his 20thmatch win of the season.
Another American in action yesterday was seventh-seed - Sam Querrey. The right hander led his match against Santiago Giraldo winning the first set 6-3, before rain brought a halt to play.
World No.6 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is the top seed at the the ATP World Tour 250 event. The Frenchman will meet left handed Brazillian Tomas Bellucci from Brazil in the second-round.
Bellucci had ousted former Aussie Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis in his first round match with the Cypriot pulling out due to a back injury. The Brazillian was leading the match 7-5,3-1 when Baghdatis decided to call it a day.
