Roddick started off his season with a bang as he was found to be in top form at the Brisbane International. Roddick smashed cannon ball serves in the match as he held service games with ease. After a series of usual hold of serves Roddick got the opportunity of breaking a serve with the a little assistance from Matosevic’s errors. As a result Roddick won the first set 6-3.
The aggressive American dominated in the second set as he raced towards a 5-0 lead in no time. The Australian wildcard seemed to be an onlooker of Roddick pin point serves and perfectly placed ground strokes. After the slaughter Maosevic took a series of two games and got one of the service games back to get closer at 2-5. Roddick then dusted all hopes for the Australian as he held serve and won the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to proceed further in the tournament. Roddick got 62% of his first serves and a commendable 79% of the first serve points.
As far as other matches are concerned Michael Berrer rallied past Dudi Sela in three tricky sets 1-6, 7-6(3), 6-2. Sela could not take the win even after hammering 16 aces in the match. Polish Lukasz Kubot saved six break points on serve in a 6-2 6-2 victory over Daniel Brands.
