Three time finalist Andy Roddick made an impressive start to his Wimbledon campaign with a straight sets win over compatriot Rajeev Ram and made it to the second round of the Championships being played at the historic All England Lawn tennis and Croquet Club.

Roddick opened the match on a strong note and broke Ram's serve early on to complete the opening set by 6 games to 3. The second set did not change the story much as with a double break in hand, Roddick raced to a two sets to love lead.
The decider once again turned out to be a lop sided affair as Roddick completed the 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 win in little over an hour of play.
Meanwhile, in a huge upset, Roddick's conquerer in Melbourne, Croatian Marin Cilic lost his opening round match to German Florian Mayer, losing 6-2, 6-4, 7-6(1).
Other notable winners in the men's draw were Nikolay Davydenko, Viktor Troicki, Karol Beck, Daniel Brands, Yen-Hsun Lu, Rainer Schuettler, Tomas Berdych, Feliciano Lopez, Albert Montanes, Benjamin Becker, Jurgen Melzer, Victor Hanescu and Denis Istomin, who took out Swiss No.2 Stanislas Wawrinka in a five set thriller.
In the women's draw, fifth seed and current French Open champion Francesca Schiavone suffered a major setback when she lost her opening round match to Russian Vera Dush
evina 7-6(0), 5-7, 1-6 to bow out of the championship.
Former World Number One Jelena Jankovic however, maintained her impressive form and defeated Britain's hope Laura Robson 6-3, 7-6(5) in a tight first round match.

Other notable winners in the women's draw were Kim Clijsters, Nadia Petrova, Regina Kulikova, Tsvetana Pironkova, Alisa Kleybanova, Maria Kirilenko, Alla Kudryavtseva, Aleksandra Wozniak, Yanina Wickmayer, Kirsten Flipkens, Marion Bartoli and Vera Zvonareva, who all registered contrasting opening round victories to move ahead in the draw.
