2009 U.S Open Champion Juan Martin Del Potro, who is attempting his comeback to tour after being laid back with a injury for a long time, lost his first match to Olivier Rochus of Belgium 7-6(7) 6-4 at Malaysian Open on Tuesday. No breaks were exchanged in the opening set and it went till tie breaker where Rochus won it with 9-7 scoreline.
Delpotro raised his game in the second set and got a early break for 2-0 lead. But he went off the boil after this and Rochus bouced back with 4-2 lead. Rochus maintaned that lead till the end and won the second 6-4 to register a straight set victory.
Guillermo Garcia -Lopez took on eigth seeded German Michael Berrer at the PTT Thailand Open in Bangkok. Garcia-Lopez took the match in two sets 6-4, 7-6(4) and improved to a 22-19 match record this season.
The vetran German Rainer Schuettler converted five break point opportunities to defeat Ricardo Mello of Brazil 6-4, 6-2 in 81 minutes. Ruben Bemelmans from Belgium won his first ever ATP World Tour match, beating another qualifier Frederik Nielson 6-2, 6-3 in 70 minutes. He will have the privilege to play against World No.1 Rafael Nadal in the second round. Bemelmans said, "Winning my first ATP match is a great thing, and to get to play against Rafael Nadal in the second round is just an extra. I will just go on court, enjoy the match and see what happens. It's not going to be easy against him, he's the No.1 player and already a legend, and he's only 24. I'll give everything I have on court and let's see what it will bring."
