Top-seeded Rafael Nadal came up strongly after losing the second-set to beat Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic in three sets with a 6-2 3-6 6-3 scoreline and reached the semi-final of the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open. In the semi-final, Nadal will take on Roger Federer, who got a walkthrough in the quarterfinal, as Gilles Simon retired just after the completion of first three games of the match earlier in the day.
Nadal won the match in 2 hours and 18 minutes, as he fired 8 aces and mustered 69% points on his first serve. Berdych played well after losing the first set on the easy note, but committed a few errors in the penultimate eighth game of the final set and Nadal earned the break. Nadal held on to his serve in the next game and secured his berth in the semi-final.
