Petrova dismantles Alicia Molik to advance in Australian Open 2011
In a big setback to Australian hopes, Russian giant-killer Nadia Petrova easily defeated the home-favourite Alicia Molik in straight sets with 6-4 6-1 to progress further in the Australian Open 2011.

Nadia Petrova once again showed why she is called a giant killer, as the Russian comprehensively defeated the Australian Alicia Molik in straight sets to reach the third-round of the Australian Open 2011 – the first Grand Slam of this year.

Petrova started on a shaky note and got broken in the opening game of the match, but the Russian regrouped herself nicely from there and never looked back. Well, both the players exchanged breaks early on in the first set, but then Petrova earned the most vital one in the tenth game of the first set and went one set up against Alicia Molik of Australia. The Russian brought in her A-game to dazzle the Australian in the tenth game of the first set. Petrova took 38 minutes to win the first set, as she earned 55% points on her first serve, fired 5 aces and hammered 9 winners. Petrova kept unforced errors to 8, while Molik had 28. Petrova also converted 2 out of 2 break points to go one set up in the match.

Re-live the exciting moments of this match!

Petrova took the momentum into the second-set and repeatedly broke the Australian to get an inaccessible 5-0 lead. Molik showed some resilience to hold on to her sixth game of the second-set, but till then it was too late, as Petrova held on to her serve in the next game and won the match with 6-4 6-1.
