Third seeded and defending champion Czech Petra Kvitova takes on Marina Erakovic of New Zealand for a place in the second round of 2012 Madrid Open.

Kvitova has a satisfactory year with a couple of good performances this year. She reached the semis of Sydney International and Australian Open in the start. She didn't played in February because of illness and struggled to reach deep in Indian Wells and Miami Open.

In her first clay tournament of the season, Kvitova was a semifinalist two weeks ago in Stuttgart and looks to be back in form.

Her opponent: Erakovic has average 13-10 win loss record this year and reached the semis of Budapest Grand Prix last week.

Both players have met once at Monzon,2008 where Kvitova won 6-3, 7-6(6) in straight sets.
