Bidding for her third-title of the season, World No. 5 Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic will take on tricky opponent Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain, who is ranked as World No. 46 in the WTA Rankings. Though, the Czech has not lost any encounter against Navarro in their past meetings, the Spaniard can surprise Kvitova with her newly found form in China Open.
The twenty two years old Czech enjoyed a breakthrough form last season, as she claimed her maiden Grand Slam title by winning the Championships and then continued with an impressive run for the rest of the season. This season, Kvitova has a relatively good win-loss record with 44-14. She has also won two titles this season and gunning for tenth career title. Kvitova ousted Daniella Hantuchova 6-2 6-3 in her opening match.
Her opponent is twenty four year old Carla Suarez Navarro, who is currently ranked as World No. 46 in the WTA Rankings. The Spaniard is still chasing her maiden title on tour and has a poor 21-25 win-loss record for the season. She beat T. Bacsinszky 6-4 6-1 in her first round encounter here.
This will be a fourth-meeting between these two and Kvitova apparently leads the head-to-head with 3-0. Last time they met in Aussie Open second-round earlier this season, where the Czech rallied past the Spaniard in three sets.
