Petra Kvitova storms into the second Round of the US Open
Reigning Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who won took her career title telly to No. 13 last week New Haven without being troubled showed the same form in her first round match against Kristina Mladenovic.

The 2011 and 2014 Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova took only 54 minutes to register an emphatic victory over  Kristina Mladenovic with a 6-1, 6-0 scorecard. She served 5 aces, hit 15 winners to extend her impressive run on the tennis court. The third seed, who won the New Haven title last week without dropping any set, dropped just one game throughout the match.

Happy with her performance the two- time Wimbledon champion said: I’m very happy. First round is always nerves. It was the same today with morning. When I wake up, I start to feel nervous. I was just glad how I played today. It was windy outside, it was tough condition. But it was the same for both of us. I didn’t expect it was going to be wind. In that time, just try to help maybe with the wind. Yeah, I’m just glad how I played. I mean, it’s great I have a couple of matches from New Haven that I felt more confident on the court than maybe I will feel if I’m not playing New Haven. So, yeah, I’m glad.

However, unlike Kvitova the former Australian Open champion and last year’s US Open finalist Victoria Azarenka dropped the opening set in tie-break against Misaki Doi of Japan. In the Opening set, both the players went on toe to toe were no without any breaks and finally Doi won the set in the tie-break 7-3. Azarenka slammed 13 winners and made 20 unforced errors by in the set.

In the second set, Azarenka got an important break on the seventh game of the set to go 4-3 up and as she tried to motivate herself with loud screams of ''Come On''. However, Doi once broker her serve back in the next game to take it 4-5. Azarenka once again fought back as she broke Doi’s serve again and took the second set 6-4.

Third set was completely one sided as Azarenka broke her oppoent’s server twice to take a lead of 5-1 and before serving for the match. There were total of 10 aces, 11 double faults, 36 winners and 47 unforced errors from Azarenka in the 2 hours and 34 minutes long match.
