Top seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy booked her place in the quarter-finals of the ASB Classic being played in Auckland with a 6-2 6-2 victory over Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain. 
Pennetta will next meet Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia who registered a 6-3 6-4 victory over Frenchwoman Aravane Rezai.
Third seeded Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium who is making her comeback after a drug ban overturn scored an easy win over Romania's Ioana Olaru 6-2 6-2 to set up a next round meeting with Japanese veteran Kimiko Date Krumm.
Wild card entrant Date Krumm wobbled up a first set deficit to beat fifth seeded Virginie Razzano of France 3-6 6-3 6-2.
"When I came back, I didn't have confidence to play against speedy or powerful shots. I needed more practice with Top 100 players," Date Krumm said. "If I keep playing more on the Tour, my eyes and body will get used to it."
Fourth seeded Francesca Schiavone of Italy eased past India's Sania Mirza 6-0 6-3 and next faces Alize Cornet of France who posted an upset win over sixth seed Elena Vesnina 6-1 6-1.
In other matches of the day, Shahar Peer advanced to the quarter-finals with a 6-1 6-0 victory over Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia.
She will next meet Russian Maria Kirilenko who defeated Estonia's Kaia Kanepi 6-2 6-3.
