In a day that only witnessed one upset, seeds sailed through to keep their title hopes alive at the 2009 GDF Suez Grand Prix.

Sixth seeded Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko struggled for three sets but came out a winner against Ioana Raluca Olaru to register a hard-fought 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory after two hours and 34 minutes of struggle.

She was later joined by Israeli Shahar Peer, who posted a surprisingly easy victory over second seeded Frenchwoman Alize Cornet. The 6-2, 6-0 win came after only 67 minutes of play that saw the Israeli star dominate the match with her powerful shotmaking and deep serves.

In another match an unseeded Edina Gallovits took out third seed Sybille Bammer 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 to move to the next round. She was later joined by Croatian qualifier Petra Martic, who edged past Mariya Koryttseva 6-3, 6-2 to move ahead.

In the day's only first round match, top seed Patty Schnyder started her campaign with a 7-6(3), 6-3 win over Andrea Petkovic to stay in contention.
