Top seeded and defending champion Novak Djokovic is now one win away from successful title defense of Rogers Cup and in his way stands Frenchman Richard Gasquet.
Djokovic is aiming to capture his first title since he successfully defended his crown at the Miami Open . The Serbian started the year on a hig note, winning the Australian Open but since then has failed to repeat his performances of last year. With a win-loss record of 48-9, the Serb has fallen short to other 3 in the big 4 on several occasions. He is also looking to snap a three-match losing streak in title matches, having fallen in the Monte-Carlo Masters, Internazionali BNL d'Italia and Roland Garros finals to Rafael Nadal.
His opponent- Gasquet will be playing in his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final since finishing runner-up to Roger Federer in Toronto six years ago. He is also trying to win his first title in 2012, after he lost to Juan Martin del Potro in the Estoril Open Final.
Both the players have met seven times before and Djokovic leads 6-1 in head to head record.
Ahead of this clash, Djokovic said " “Richard has been playing well this week. He wants to step into the court tomorrow and have nothing to lose and is motivated and wants to win. I expect a tough match.”
