Novak Djokovic vs Marin Cilic - Wimbledon Quarterfinal Preview
In a rematch from their third round clash at the French Open last month, Novak Djokovic will renew rivalries with close friend Marin Cilic on Court No.1 today.

On Monday, top seed Novak Djokovic put in a dazzling display on Centre Court as he overwhelmed former Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in three sets to book his spot in the quarterfinal of Wimbledon again. The Serb was stupendous on the day as he dominated Tsonga from the word go and was never broken all through the match.

In the tournament, however, Novak hasn’t quite been as consistent or dominant as he has gone through a couple of lulls in his opening few matches. As he moves along and goes deeper into the contest here at the All England Club, those lulls will start costing him dearly as the quality of the opposition improves.

Today, he is up against close friend and former top ten Marin Cilic and if he isn’t careful, it’ll come back to bite him today. The Croat had taken him to four sets at the French Open last month, this despite clay being his weakest surface. On grass, the big serving 25 year-old tends to do a lot better as shown by his grass court record which rises to 68 percent when he plays on the surface compared to his overall average of 64 percent.

Yet, Djokovic comes into the match as an overwhelming favourite and anything less than a win will send shockwaves down the locker-rooms. The Serb, who won the title here at the All England Club back in 2011, is searching for his first Grand Slam title after winning his fourth successive Aussie Open title at last year’s Aussie Open.

Since then, he has already been in three Grand Slam finals and has failed to win a single one. While reaching finals consistently is good for some players, for Djokovic it is unacceptable as he is on the peak of his powers at the moment and needs to be winning Grand Slam titles to continue to threaten rivals Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray.

Having reached the finals last year, Novak is defending 1400 ATP points – something that will be crucial for him if he genuinely wants to challenge Rafa for the top spot on the table this year.

Head to Head: This is the tenth meeting between these two with Cilic yet to win a single match against the Serb.
