Novak Djokovic plays compatriot Viktor Troicki in his opening match of the 2010 US Open today. The feisty Serbian is known for his consistency over the years. This year has remained a mixed bag for Djokovic, but with a few titles win, the Serbian is still a force to reckon with in tennis – and comfortably placed at No. 3 in rankings, after Nadal and Federer. Djokovic grabbed all the attention in the beginning by reaching the semi-finals of all the four Grand Slams, but it seems that his on-court prominence has lessened a bit these days.

Djokovic began his hard-court season on a high note this year, but his progress was soon halted by Roger Federer and Andy Roddick, as he lost to them in Toronto and Cincinnati. On the other hand, Troicki enjoyed initial success in New Haven before he was ousted by Denis Istomin. Troicki has not produced any wins against the big players lately. Thus, it is a penultimate stage for him to cause the big upset of the 2010 US Open.
Djokovic leads the winning record with 4-1 against Troicki. Recently, Djokovic humbled his young compatriot in Cincinnati in straight sets with a 6-3 7-5 scoreline. The contest seems pretty easier one for Djokovic, unless Troicki has something out of this world to bewitch the world no. 3.
