Playing 18 holes of golf is not the usual reaction of a defending champion after losing his crown in a Wimbledon semi-final. But Novak Djokovic did just that immediately after his defeat by tournament winner Roger Federer.
Djokovic contacted Surbiton Golf Club, where he had been playing earlier in the fortnight, asking if he could have a golf session in the evening. He and his friends played a full round before finishing around 9pm, when they posed for photographs with staff and guests from a golf society having dinner in the clubhouse. When asked if he wasn't fed up after his defeat, Djokovic replied: “That's life.”
Djokovic's coach Marian Vajda gave a heads up into the Serb's surprisingly relaxed attitude during the tournament when he said, “We're staying in a house nearby and any free time we have been rushing off to golf courses. We have been playing at Royal Wimbledon and Surbiton.”
Djokovic is now ranked No.2 on the ATP charts behind Federer, who won the title at the All England Club.
