World No.2 Novak Djokovic got off to a flying start at the Monte Carlo Masters on Tuesday as he raced to a 45 minute win in his second round match. The Serb, who comes in as one of the favourites to win the event said that he was quite pleased with how things progressed in his opening match.
"Considering that it was my first match played on clay since a very long time I can say that it has been amazing. I didn’t commit a lot of unforced errors, despite playing against an opponent that today wasn’t playing his best, but who is a specialist on clay. I managed to stay focused from the beginning until the end, moving him around from one side to the other of the court, always putting pressure on him" said Novak after the match.
"It’s always special playing here, right in the city where I live. I know a lot of people here. My house is 2 or 3 minutes away from the club pedaling, thus I have to say that this tournament really has something more special than the others" he revealed and then added, "normally the transition between hard courts and clay is not easy, but today everything was perfect".
Rather worryingly though, the Serbian said that he had been struggling with a wrist injury.
"It’s an annoying pain I started feeling last week. Today’s very short match helped me not to strain it. I hope it will get better as the days go by."
