World No.11 Nicolas Almagro would look to hand Spain its sixth Davis Cup title as he gets ready to face a seasoned campaigner in the form of World No. 37 Radek Stepanek. The two will face in the fifth rubber of this tie and this match’s outcome depends on the result of the match between Tomas Berdych and David Ferrer. Czech Republic lead Spain 2-1 coming into the final day of the finals.
Almagro has had a good year and was unfortunate to be placed just outside the Top-10. With 2 titles to his credit in 2012, Almagro displayed tremendous grit in his previous match loss to Berdych in 5 sets. He has compiled a win-loss record of 58-23 this year and would be hoping to overcome the crowd and his tricky opponent and in turn help the visitors successfully defend their title.
Stepanek on the other hand is one player who strives on the crowd support and would be hoping that the crowd really backs him. His unconventional style of play has the ability to test the best in the business. He tested Ferrer at times in their first rubber but played his part in Czech Republic’s doubles win. He would be hoping that his attacking game can pip Almagro.
The two have faced thrice with Stepanek leading 2-1 in their head-to-head matches. Their last meeting came at this year’s US Open with Almagro winning the match in 4 sets. One can expect a cracker of a match with Almagro facing a stiff task to overcome the crowd and Stepanek.
