After beating Novak Djokovic at the Monte Carlo Masters Rafael Nadal became the first man to win the tournament for eight times.

Nadal began his romance with the tournament back in 2005 as a teenager and has since gone from strength to strength. He has beaten one and all at the tournament, starting from Guillermo Coria - another clay-court master, to Roger Federer - who is arguably the best player the world has ever seen, to Novak Djokovic - his arch rival and nemesis who seemed to be one step ahead of Nadal.

Nadal is truly the 'king of Monte Carlo'. Let's have a recap of all his victories at the tournament.

My nutritionist has done a great job in changing my diet after we established I am allergic to some food ingredients like gluten - it means I can't eat stuff like pizza, pasta and bread. I have lost some weight, but my movement is sharper and I feel great physically.

As tennis players, when we see fans driving up, see a line of spectators, it's incredible. You never know about how you will handle something bad until it happens. - Svetlana Kuznetsova and Francesco Schiavone made winning starts at the BNP Paribas Open as both players won their match in straight sets.
It was pretty obvious I wasn't feeling that well. It's been bothering me for a while, and it hasn't really been getting better.

- Victoria Azarenka withdrew from the BNP Paribas quarterfinal match against Caroline Wozniacki due to an injury.
I think the court suits me very well. I like that it goes fast through the air, but it's a pretty slow court. So I feel like I get out of the ball what I want. But at the same time, I feel like I get to a lot of balls. To have that mix is good.

- Caroline Wozniacki a rival who does not have enough fire-power in the tank to take on the imposing Russian.
