Rafael Nadal, the seven time French Open champion will be joined by the World No.6 David Ferrer, Nicolas Almagro and Fernando Verdasco in singles, while Feliciano Lopez and Marcel Granollers will participate in doubles. Nadal will pair with Granollers in doubles, as will Ferrer and Lopez make the second pair.
Staying with the Olympics, new womens World No.1 Maria Sharapova has been selected as the flag bearer for Russia. She tweeted, “I can share some exciting news with you. After the third round of the French Open, I woke up to a pretty memorable message. The Russian Olympic committee chose me to be the flag bearer at this years Olympic opening ceremony. I am so honored, and especially excited as it will be my first Olympics in my career.” Sharapova also becomes the first women to serve as the flag bearer for Russia.
Mens World No.1 Novak Djokovic will carry the flag Serbia. “ We are all very excited about the Olympic games in London, such a magnificent sporting event, and it goes without saying what a great honor it is for me to carry the flag for Serbia,” Djokovic said.
The matches are scheduled to be played in the All England Club on grass starting 28 July, with the finals to be held on either on August 4 or 5.
