Gunning for a record seventh Roland Garros title, Spaniard Rafael Nadal subdued Uzbek Denis Istomin in straight sets with a 6-2 6-2 6-0 scoreline and surged into the third-round of the 2012 French Open, this year’s second Grand Slam tournament, being played here in Roland Garros, Paris.
Nadal got the breaks at crucial junctures and played some magnificent forehand shots on both sides of the court to dictate the terms. Istomin battled well in long rallies, but recurring unforced errors did not allow him to make a comeback – in this lop-sided match.
Nadal took 36 minutes to win the first set. The Spaniard broke the Uzbek twice and convincingly won the first set. Nadal served really well as he mustered 90% points on his first serve and got benefited from Istomin's 12 unforced errors. Istomin did not have a break point opportunity in the first set.
Nadal kept the momentum in control and won the second-set in 48 minutes. Once again the Spaniard served really well, as he mustered 61% points on his first serve, hammered 11 winners and converted 2 out of 6 break-points. Istomin had two break-point opportunities, but he failed to convert even one.
Nadal played really well in the crucial third set and did not allow his opponent to win a single game.
