Gunning for a record seventh Roland Garros title, defending champion Rafael Nadal of Spain earned a straight sets 6-2 6-0 6 victory over World No. 15 Juan Monaco of Argentina and secured his berth in the quarterfinals of the 2012 French Open, this year’s second Grand Slam tournament being played here in Roland Garros, Paris.
Nadal earned 69% points on his first serve and hammered 25 winners; converted 8 out of 10 break points. The Spaniard got benefited from Monaco’s 25 unforced errors.
After 34 minutes of play, Rafael Nadal claimed the first set. The Spaniard mustered 67% points on his first serve, hammered 7 winners and converted 2 out of 2 break-points. Well, the Argentine Monaco did not have a break-point opportunity in the first set.
Nadal completed a bagel in the second-set. The Spaniard tightened the screws on the Argentine and did not allow him to win a single game in the second-set. Nadal took 34 minutes to win the second-set. The Spaniard earned 80% points on his first serve and converted 3 out of 4 break points, with the help of 8 winners. And, the trend continued in the third set and Nadal did not allow the struggling Argentine to win a single game and sailed home – comprehensively.
