Gunning for his third Wimbledon title, second-seeded Rafael Nadal made a fine start to his Championships campaign on Tuesday as he mustered a straight sets 7-6(0) 6-2 6-3 victory over Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil and secured his berth in the second-round of this Grand Slam tournament.
After 57 minutes of play, Rafael Nadal clinched the first set in a tie-breaker. The Spaniard made a terrific comeback from 0-4 down in the first set to claim it. Bellucci has had a few very easy opportunities, but he failed to convert those and committed 12 unforced errors - at crucial junctures, which made it difficult for him to make a comeback.
With double break of serve, Nadal clinched the second-set. Nadal easily took the momentum of the first set into second and won it comprehensively. The Spaniard served beautifully in the second-set, as he mustered 88% points on his first serve and also converted 2 out of 2 break-points with the help of 12 winners. Bellucci failed to pose any serious threat for Nadal - in the second-set.
Both the contenders exchanged breaks in the third-set, but then Nadal earned the decisive one in the sixth game and then held on to his serves to win this duel in straight sets.
