Nadal opened the match under stiff competition and struggled with Murray's strong groundstrokes till he fetched a golden break in the ninth game to close the opening set by 6 games to 4.
The second set brought the best out of both players when after holding all six of their service games each, both contestants pushed the set into a tie-break. Murray got a golden opportunity at 5-5 when Nadal double fauled to give the Scot a chance to serve for the set, but an immediate reaction from the Spaniard squandered Murray's lead and hopes of levelling the match. After reeling off three points in a row, Nadal pocketed the second set as well.
The third set saw a momentary lapse in the Spaniard's concentration which he soon recovered from and clinched a pair of service breaks to complete the 6-4, 7-6(6), 6-4 win in two hours and 22 minutes of play.
In a short interview conducted at the Centre Court gallery, Nadal expressed his happiness over his victory but admitted that he felt sorry for Murray.
Nadal now faces Czech giant-killer Tomas Berdych, who took out third seed Novak Djokovic in three gruelling sets, winning 6-3, 7-6(9), 6-3 to secure his maiden Grand Slam final berth.
